SEARCHING FOR RAINBOWS...
Newspaper, radio, television, land phones, mobile phones, internet, social networks……..the world is becoming so close. We can get access to whatever news we want to get, what all information we want to collect all at our fingertips.
Is the world widening or narrowing? Whatever the answer to this question is, I think we humans are becoming narrow-minded. Now we know what is happening at the other end of the world, but we don’t know whether our neighbour is starving or sick, whether his child goes to school or to work. We have long lost the habit of visiting our neighbourhoods. Our children don’t know who lives near them. Every day we find more and more strangers around us simply because we are not making friends of them.
We have also lost the quality of tolerance. At the least provocation, our children are getting irritated. They are willing to do away with everything they don’t like. They have acquired this use and throw away culture or rather we taught them this culture. We can’t tolerate difference of opinion. We can’t tolerate criticism. What happened to us?
Today the mob is killing someone who kills a cow, someone who steals some food, someone who goes with a chicken – we kill in the name of God, in the name of political ideologies, and for many other reasons. When I read the newspaper, when I listen to news channels, when I look into the social networks, everywhere I see the stories of killings and rapes, of financial cheatings and robbery and many other crimes.
The gone week has given some beautiful moments also. The twelve children of Thailand and their loving teacher and the whole team who tried for their rescue endangering their own safety poses a rainbow of hope. Humanity is still not dead. I pray it will become more strong in the future.
